Hmmmm…..well, let’s go back about 3 years. Picture me, perusing the internet and fun stylish blogs. I’m smiling, maybe even giggling because everything looks so AWESOME! Maybe I’m even flipping my head back and forth so that my hair flings side to side(because it makes the story exciting, of course). I’m STOPPED mid-flip…………………..I’ve just noticed something so awful, so hideous that I can’t even breathe. THE DECOR IN MY HOME! AHHHHHHHHH, the horror!
Okay, so maybe that was a little dramatic, but I feel that way sometimes. I am not a natural at decorating. Don’t misunderstand, I LOVE design but It does not come naturally. I have to work for it. I have to spend countless hours scouring through inspiration photos trying to pinpoint what I want. Over time I have gotten better. Things do start to sink in and I have started to recognize my style. So there is hope. But recognizing that using pillows was a sure-fire way to add style, flare, pizazz to my home…..I have to take what I can get.
Back to the story. There were things that I started wanting for my home, but didn’t want to pay so much money for. SOme things would be well worth the investment(some are not) but even then it would take me a lifetime of, “one room painted here, one accessory there and so on”. I would never have the home that I wanted. And pillows!? Holy crap they can be expensive…..arghhh, but they can have such an impact! I couldn’t justify paying for 5 or 6 or 7 pillows and 1 just wouldn’t cut it(that would be a lonely pillow on a big couch). So I googled throw pillow tutorials. After realizing just. how. easy. they were, I made them for myself.
I couldn’t believe pillows cost so much money when making them was so cheap(comparatively). Then I thought, “You know what? Everyone should be able to update their homes without breaking the bank!” It isn’t only the “cool” people who should be able to have stylish homes. And Nanny Goat Pillows was born!
We started small. Doing a couple of farmers markets. There was a lot of interest so we looked into other venues. Each time doing a little more.
We’ve done pretty well at these venues and even decided to sell on internet deal sites such as Jane, andRuby and Shesteals. Luckily, we have a really good friend who does photography as a hobby, bonus! Without quality photos, our pillows would not sell as well other than in person. A good photo makes all the difference(thanks, Shannon).
Aren’t these pictures great!? She really has been a huge help for us and we wouldn’t be to this point without her help.
So things have kind of grown on their own and choices are made as the opportunities have come up. More recently I have really wanted to write a blog. Partly because I want to be a “cool blogger”(j/k). Because this was an opportunity to reach more of our customers in a more personal way and because there is so much more to me than pillows. There are so many things that I would like to dabble in and since my kids are getting bigger(last one will be in kindergarten in 1 1/2 years) I am more able to spread my wings. I no longer have to be stopped mid-flip by my home decor and I have pillows and a blog to show for it…and maybe some dolphins are saved in the process. Everyone wins!!
